Birthday Party TipsPlay games that don't involve eliminations. There's nothing worse than being eliminated early and having to sit out for most of the game. Instead choose some games that keep everyone involved. Treasure hunts for hidden objects that can be exchanged for prizes are great. Zany relays, Water balloon toss, and Limbo are also great for outdoors. Remember to keep a few indoor games in mind like Pin the Tail on the Donkey as well for when the weather is bad. Here are a few links to pages with loads of party games if you need some party ideas.
Involve your child in the planning.Children love to get involved in planning, especially when it's their birthday party! Let them help with things like the birthday guest list, menu, party games, choosing a kids entertainer, blowing up balloons and writing the invitations.
Make the most of the Magic Show.My Magic Shows can be performed in any room of your house provided there is room for the audience to sit and a small performing area (large enough to walk a few steps in each direction is fine). A room that is well lit but with a solid wall or corner behind the performing area is best. To get the most from the magic experience invite the adults at the party to watch the show too. If however you would like the adults to be able to talk amongst themselves during the show then setting aside a separate area for them to do this is a good idea. |
Serve up some healthy food too.You don't need to replace all the usual birthday party treats with healthy food, but striking a good balance is a good idea if you want to avoid the sugar high crazies that hit some kids. Their parents will thank you too!
Have the entertainer before the food and games. If you do decide to have a magician or children's entertainer at your party, a good running order is to have some time for people to arrive combined with present opening, followed by the magic show, then the party food and games after that. This way the magician helps break the ice, and the kids are able to concentrate for the magic show.
Don't try to be in three places at once. The trick to being able to enjoy the party yourself is to delegate jobs out and not try to do everything yourself. Enlist the help of the other adults and the older kids at the party, they will most likely be only too happy to run some birthday games, set the tables or prepare some of the food.
